Sustainable forest management is a challenge for the present and future of our profession and our ecosystems. The Declaration of Compostela (October 1999) already mentioned that tax and financial measures must be implemented to guarantee the effective implementation of sustainable management criteria. Given the multi-functionality and preponderance of private forest property in the Basque Country, what measures do you consider adequate to advance in sustainable management? Are you familiar with any practical management cases that have used GIS, GPS or tele-detection in this field?

On the other hand, it is necessary to foster actions that result in the preservation of forest reserves. The economic value of the forest ecosystems that is currently applied, is sub-estimating the utility of these ecosystems. New assessment models for market-less property, which are applicable to these models of sustainable management, must be applied. What do you think about this topic?
